With demand for super luxury cars sky rocketing, it is no surprise that India also gets the latest supercars in the world with Indian buyers having a healthy appetite for them. Supercar sales have increased owing to better road infrastructure and Indians splurging on these machines. With track days and drives now being common, India is having more supercar owners than before. Here, we look at the latest launches in this segment to rev up this scene further.
Porsche 911
The 911 from Porsche blurs the lines between a supercar and a sports car while the latest 992.2 takes an evolutionary approach towards its styling. The evergreen 911 shape is as gorgeous as ever but small tweaks have been scattered here and there. The new 992.2 looks sleek and ready for the track with a slightly altered front-end as well as the rear. The classic design though remains and that’s the hallmark. However, the big changes are on the inside where the 911 has a reconfigured dashboard with a new gear selector as well as the old school key start being removed. Compared to other supercars, the 911 is practical and visibility is excellent along with a perfect driving position. With a Porsche, you can spec a lot of options and you will end up spending a lot but a supercar has always been about personalisation and buying that dream car tailor made for you. The 992.2 comes in a variety of trims while the Carrera comes up with a potent 3.0-litre twin turbo flat six while elsewhere there is the GTS with a hybrid powertrain for the first time, too. Start the car and there is the classic flat six howl and it fills the ears. Yet, on the move, the 911 is practical and well suited for our roads despite the low-slung stance. You can raise the ground clearance even. However, a supercar is best savoured on empty roads where the car leaps forward with enthusiasm. It sounds nice and there is the typical 911 balance which lets you take liberties but you are never too close to the edge. The Porsche 911 is expensive at Rs 2cr plus without options but is one of the most practical supercars out there while also catering to the true driving enthusiast.
Lamborghini Temerario
For Lamborghini, the Temerario is a big step forward and a change over the earlier Huracan which had a huge V10 engine. Like its bigger brother, the Revuelto, the Temerario gets a plug-in hybrid powertrain which means there is a V8 with no less than three electric motors. The result is a mighty 920hp and that blows away its predecessor in terms of sheer power. Not only that as the Temerario is all new within the skin as well with a different suspension, steering and a focus on brutish performance. The engine will rev to 10,000 rpm and the gearbox tasked to handle it is all new as well while the car has been prepped for track as well as long distance GT driving. Performance is brutal and weight has been kept in check while the car is a missile for the road, thanks to the engine. Yet, the Temerario is even more extreme to look at courtesy the fighter jet like styling. It looks sensational and has a futuristic vibe while the rear styling is unique with a cutaway bumper design. The interior is very practical. Even a 6-foot man can get in and be comfortable. There is a lot of technology, too. There are at least three screens, and again, it is practical too. The Temerario is not a speed machine but a supercar that you can scare yourself daily, provided you can splurge Rs 6cr for one
