When Monkey bar opened doors at Madras House, VR Chennai, Anna Nagar, it was obvious that the food connoisseurs were spotted making merry and celebrating yet another fun and quirky place to hang out at. The newest hotspot has an extensive selection of over 67 fabulous dishes on a menu that is light and light-hearted with a bar that has something to please everyone. Monkey Bar is reinventing the gastro pub experience. Here’s what we liked when we stopped by.

Ambience: The moment you step inside Monkey bar you will feel youthful with the vibrant lights and artwork. There’s never a dull moment at this gastropub, whether for a casual outing with friends, a catch up with colleagues, a Sunday lunch with family, a date or just getting your weekend mojo back. It’s fun, it’s quirky, it’s inspired by pubs around the world, yet, unabashedly Indian. Monkey Bar promises to stir things up, yet again, with creative cocktails, regionally-inspired dishes with a playful twist and great service. As the name sounds, you will get to meet Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai Monkeys through art and their creativity. The music is buzzy, the vibe is happy, and the ambience relaxed yet cool.

Food & Drinks: The signature cocktails include Mangaa, Copper Monkey, Old Fashioned Kacheri and Madras Men. Also try their selection of regionally-inspired dishes Pick from their new small plates such as Mirapakaya Bajji, Meen Varuthath, Nethili Fry, Gassi Fish Tikka and Beef Pepper Fry. Try their Kori Kempu and Neer Dosa or the ‘Two States’- inspired Jackfruit 65 Tacos, or international specials like Baked Crab, Vegetable Dumplings, Vegetarian Mezze Platter and Mushroom Bruschetta. The more recent bar additions like Hipster Smash and Pied Piper pair beautifully with Loaded Nachos, Butterfly Chicken, Chilli Cheese Roll, Cheesy Pao Bhaaji, MoBar Ribs, Chicken Chapli, Reddy’s Popcorn Chicken and Tiger Beef.
