Caring for your hair isn’t just about beauty; it mirrors your inner vitality,” says Dr Geetika, skin & hair expert and the founder & medical director of ISAAC Luxe. She often encounters patients grappling with hair issues that proper care could have prevented in the first place.
The Right Care Starts with Cleansing…
Always start with the basics: choose sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners tailored to your hair type and avoid harsh ingredients like parabens, silicones, alcohol, artificial fragrances, and formaldehyde, which can strip your hair of its natural oils. Proper cleansing is the foundation of hair hygiene.
Caring for Your Scalp…
“A healthy scalp is crucial for healthy hair growth,” Dr. Geetika emphasises. Gently massaging your scalp while shampooing stimulates blood circulation.
In the hustle and bustle of our modern lives, we often overlook the simple pleasure of giving our heads a good massage. It’s quite a contrast to the older days when people enjoyed these massages as a regular ritual. What is the result? Thicker, fuller, and healthier hair that would envy even the glossiest magazine cover.
A scalp massage was more than just a routine; it was an indulgent experience. It was like a soothing symphony for your senses, relaxing your hair and your entire being.
Here’s the exciting part: why it made your hair so fabulous. A scalp massage boosts blood circulation to your hair follicles. This increased flow stimulated hair growth, making it thicker and fuller.
In those days, they often used natural oils during these massages. One oil that is doing rounds on social media is the rosemary oil, which has caught my attention. Rosemary oil has minoxidil, which helps relieve female and male pattern baldness. Rosemary leaf extract and even essential oil have carnosic acid. Carnosic does not only heal the nerve ending but also regenerates it.
Doing a patch test before adding rosemary oil to your routine is essential.
Fast forward to today, and our lives are a whirlwind. We often rush through showers, barely giving our scalps a second thought. The daily stresses pile up, and our hair can bear the brunt of it. We opt for quick fixes and fancy products, forgetting the simple magic of an excellent old-fashioned scalp massage.
This is where hair treatments come in. You can try specific treatments that can fix the problem of hair hydration and hygiene.
Dolphin Hair is an innovative approach that uses the power of high-velocity water infused with specialised serums to address hair and scalp concerns at a deeper level.
HydraFacial Keravive is yet another treatment that exfoliates and hydrates your scalp. It works in three simple steps.
For people who are scared of needles, we have the Jet PRP treatment for you. It is a no needle, no pain treatment that uses the power of high-velocity to infuse the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) into the scalp for hair restoration.
The process begins with thoroughly cleansing your scalp to remove impurities and build-up. The patented Vortex Technology delivers a proprietary Keravive Peptide Complex solution to your scalp. The powerful Keravive Peptide Complex is infused into your scalp, enriched with growth factors and biomimetic peptides.
Hair GenX is a cutting-edge hair treatment that utilises microneedling and LED irradiation to address a range of hair concerns like hair loss, hair thinning, damaged hair, and irritable scalp!
A skilled professional applies the Hair Gen Booster solution directly to the scalp during the treatment using a precise and painless micro-needle device. This ensures effective absorption of the nutrients, stimulating the hair follicles for optimal results.
Balancing Act always depends on the Washing Frequency…
Overwashing can lead to dryness and damage. It is suggested to wash your hair 2-3 times a week. For those who workout regularly, I recommend using a dry shampoo to contain the oiliness that shows up on the scalp every day.
And if you have an excessively oily scalp, use a clarifying shampoo once a week. Specific dietary changes can also be implemented to control the oiliness of the scalp.
- Reduce saturated and trans fat: Overeating greasy and fried stuff can make your scalp produce more oil. It is better to cut back to maintain a healthy scalp.
- Add Omega-3 Fats: Foods like fish, flaxseeds, and walnuts are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids. These can help keep your scalp’s oil in check.
- Go for Fruits and Veggies: Berries, spinach, broccoli, and other colourful fruits and veggies have antioxidants. Think of them as little helpers that can keep your scalp from getting too oily.
- Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water is good for your scalp and hair. When you’re well-hydrated, oil production will be regulated.
- Cut Down on Sugar and High-Glycemic Food: Foods with a ton of sugar or processed food can make your scalp oilier. Try to have them sparingly.
- Get Zinc from Nuts and Whole Grains: Zinc helps control scalp oil. Nuts and whole grains, like oats and brown rice, are good sources.
- Watch Dairy Intake: Some people find that eating less dairy (like milk and cheese) helps with an oily scalp. Dairy can sometimes make your scalp produce more oil.
- Get your B Vitamins: Eggs and leafy greens have B vitamins. These can help manage how much oil your scalp makes.
- Don’t overdo Alcohol: Drinking too much alcohol can dry your scalp, leading to even more oil. So, please don’t overdo it, and drink enough water.
- Chill Out and Relax: Stress can make your scalp oilier. Try relaxing activities like deep breathing, yoga, or even walking to help reduce stress.
These simple changes in your diet and lifestyle can help you keep that oily scalp under control.
Protection against damage…
“Preventing damage is as important as cleansing,” says Dr. Geetika. Excessive use of heat-styling tools can lead to dryness and damage. Always use a heat protectant spray to shield your hair from high temperatures.
Regular trims, every 6-8 weeks are essential to prevent split ends and promote healthy growth.
Deep Conditioning…
“Consider deep conditioning treatments to restore moisture and shine,” she suggests. Natural remedies such as coconut oil and aloe vera are effective for hydration.
Reverse Conditioning
“Try reverse conditioning by applying conditioner before shampooing,” Dr. Geetika recommends. This helps protect your hair’s natural oils while providing necessary hydration.
Overnight Hair Masks and Silk Accessories…
“Apply a hair mask on damp hair before bedtime and leave it overnight,” she advises. Rinse it out in the morning for deeply hydrated locks. Dr. Geetika also suggests using silk pillow covers and hair ties to reduce friction and prevent breakage.
