Walking into FU FU feels like stepping into Asia’s unapologetic nightlife. The chaos of Bangkok’s soi streets fused with the polish of a Singapore cocktail bar. It’s moody, feline, and mischievous, but what really lingers is the food. The name itself carries meaning. Fu (福) in Chinese symbolises happiness, good fortune, blessings, and prosperity, an auspicious character often displayed upside-down during Chinese New Year to signify that fortune has arrived. FUFU lives right in that space: irreverent, joyful, and deeply rooted in culture.

Ambience:
Mirrors, warm rust tones, and moody lighting create a sense of intrigue, while subtle red accents highlight architectural pillars and guide the eye. At the heart of the swanky new restaurant is a striking, cat-inspired light installation above the bar that shifts in colour and mood, transforming the atmosphere through the evening. Playful feline motifs, curated art, and rich textures come together to create a space that feels indulgent yet relaxed.

Food:
The menu doesn’t whisper. It roars. Garlic is unashamed, chillies bite back, and broths take their time to grow on you. From sushi and dim sum to sizzling stone bowls, every plate carries the confidence of Asia’s kitchens without compromise.

And then there are the drinks. Mine was a tall, electric-blue mocktail cheekily named Mouthwash. It arrived with a brush and paste, a tongue-in-cheek nod to the “no kissing after garlic” rule. It looked like something you shouldn’t consume, but tasted like something you absolutely should: sweet, refreshing, and the perfect palate reset between fiery bites.

What sealed the experience were the dishes themselves. The Crispy Prawn Uramaki Roll was a crunchy, umami-packed bite that set the tone, while the NBU Miso Black Cod from the Robata Grill melted into smoky perfection. The Sri Lankan Crab & Moringa Dim Sum brought a delicate balance of richness and earthiness, and the Indonesian Nasi Goreng was comfort food turned into theatre -fried rice with sweet soy and crisp textures that felt both nostalgic and new. For dessert, the Japanese Cheesecake was a playful finale, marrying Japanese finesse with American indulgence. Each dish felt like a bold statement, unapologetically Asian and joyfully uncut.

FU FU isn’t just another Asian eatery. A refusal to edit flavour, a celebration of Asia’s layered messiness, and a reminder that food can be both irreverent and deeply rooted in culture. With its tiger-like energy and playful attitude, FU FU is more than a dining spot, it’s an experience that dares you to loosen your tie, dip into the funk, and embrace the uncut, uncensored joy of unique Asian flavours.
