As we stepped foot into the recently opened The Bier Library, we could clearly see how Bangaloreans take their weekends very seriously. Every sip and bite here is a celebration. Nestled in the heart of Sarjapur Road, this vibrant brewery pairs its signature craft brews with a menu that surprises and delights everyone’s palates. The ambiance hums with contagious energy and the evenings here are buzzing with endless froth and fun.
Large open courtyard, spatial volumes, brick cladding and the iconic staircase feature sets the tone for this space continuing the brand ethos from its existing Koramangala space. Spread across a couple of acres of land and a seating of over 2000 people, The Bier Library should be on your bucket list of India’s finest breweries to go to. This casual space is just the place that beckons one to soak in the lovely Bangalore weather over some great grub and tipple.
The brewery plonks itself bang in the middle of the entire property surrounded by a grand entrance with the service zone on one side and the car parking on the other. As we waltzed in through the large door, we were first welcomed by a double-heighted ceiling featuring a roof adorned with Mangalore tiles and a patterned, colourful floor. A chunky stone-clad wall with arches on either side led us onto the main courtyard, which houses the stage. The courtyard serves as the heart of the space, connecting all the spaces.
The large organic waterbody adjacent to the courtyard serves as a central element, seamlessly dividing the indoor and outdoor spaces but also connecting them with bridges. Its presence likely creates a visual and spatial connection between both areas, while also enhancing the natural ambiance and providing a calming, reflective surface. This design fosters a sense of harmony and fluidity, integrating nature with the architecture. The waterbody at one of the ends allows one to walk down and feel themselves as part of the waterbody, making it very Instagram worthy. The key feature is the central junction housing a waterfall on one side and a trickle effect at the other enhanced with a gorgeous Frangipani tree.
While one crosses the arched bridge, they are welcomed with this gigantic spiral staircase becoming an element one cannot miss along with a cluster of lighting lit with cutesy edison bulbs.
Spread across the entire ground floor plate this brewery houses two bars on either end. The main bar is set against the striking backdrop of a power-packed brew house with arched metal windows creating an immersive atmosphere for guests. This unique setup allows one to feel more connected to the brewing process, enhancing the overall brewery experience. The brew house adds a dynamic touch and the island bar, exudes a sense of openness and grandeur. Its brick-clad wall adds a touch of rustic charm, while the feature circular window becomes a focal point, inviting natural light. This combination of design elements enhances the overall ambiance, making it a favourite spot for guests to relax and enjoy the experience. A circular large planter, accentuated by a conical skylight, serves as a captivating feature within the open floor plan of the ground floor. The dense foliage and a tall tree emerging through to the first floor create a visual connection between the levels, adding an intriguing element of nature that ties both floors together seamlessly.
One can choose to go up to the floor with the spiral staircase or a single flight cantilever staircase housed at the opposite end towards the pizzeria. The open floor plan of the first floor offers a versatile space, perfect for hosting large corporate gatherings or more intimate family celebrations. Its expansive design allows for seamless transitions between areas, providing a flexible environment that can accommodate both professional events and personal, cozy gatherings. The spacious layout ensures a sense of openness while still maintaining the ability to create distinct zones for different types of occasions. The island bar at this level, nestled against a brick-clad wall, exudes rustic charm with its arched windows and vibrant coloured glass. Leather-clad couches invite you to unwind in style. The upper floor offers a stunning bird’s-eye view of the central courtyard and shimmering waterbody, creating a perfect blend of comfort and elegance.
The kitchen sprawls across two floors, nestled behind a robust brick-clad wall perceived right at the entrance expanding to the depth of the property. It transforms into a vibrant live kitchen on the upper level, where culinary creativity unfolds. Here, the sizzle of pans and the aroma of fresh ingredients invite everyone to savour the art of cooking.
