Neesha Amrish, Designer and founder of Label Aeshaane finds that,“Mocha mousse evokes a sense of warmth, comfort and understated sophistication. It’s a muted earthy tone that feels both grounded and elegant. It represents stability that instantly connects me with Mother Earth. The hint of creamy taupe adds a touch of timelessness that feels modern yet classic.”

Mocha mousse reminds me of coffee, which is my favourite drink and gives me a huge sense of comfort. It also reminds me of yummy chocolate which I can’t live without. The colour evokes a myriad of emotions for me.”, says Dr Mini Rao, Psychologist.

Inspired by a dessert of the same name, this interpretation of brown is believed to have been chosen keeping in mind our natural desire for comfort. Model Suja Sukumar says, “This colour is very neutral and I’m the sort of person who loves such unique colours. We all know the energy behind this colour (Brown) is very earthy. The colour makes me look chic, versatile and neutral and importantly gives a luxurious feeling.” While choosing to embrace the trend or sit it out can be a largely personal decision, we let fashion insiders tell you how it can be worked into your wardrobe, wedding looks and even interiors.

Served haute
Fall runways were dominated by darker shades of brown to a noticeable extent. Pantone picks the colour for each year based on current trends in fashion runways, pop culture, and even human psychology. Now, suddenly, we find the Internet waxing eloquent on how this could be the ‘it’ colour of 2025 and we are already thinking of ways of incorporating it into our lives (and of course our instagram posts). When asked to comment on the trend Sidney Sladen, Designer said, “To me it is basically a caramel kind of a shade. It’s definitely an interesting choice though it is not something we would have expected.” He goes on to explain, “People tend to avoid brown in terms of clothes especially in India but it’s actually a nice colour that can be used as a neutral to balance off bright colours.” If you are looking to stock up on wardrobe basics in this colour, he recommends that you invest in

  • Jeans definitely
  • A classic shirt and
  • A saree blouse that can be used along with skirts and trousers
  • Bags and shoes (for women)
  • Shoes for men so that we can move away from the dark browns and tans

Match your skin tone
From what we hear the colour would work really well on dusky skin tones. Pairing it with a lot of gold accessories would make it elegant and chic. In case you are a lighter skinned person, you could do a colour pop with colours such as fuchsia pink, neon green or Fanta orange.

Colour blocking
Mocha mousse can be very versatile and pairs extremely well with other neutrals. You can keep it classy by wearing it with shades like white, black, beige, gold, silver, bronze etc. You can also experiment by pairing it with a beautiful lavender or rosy pink. To try something bolder, create a contrast pairing it with jewel tones.

Accessorize
According to Neesha Amrish “Mocha mousse pairs beautifully with metallics such as gold that can be worn in the form of statement jewellery belts or shoes. A touch of jewel tones, such as emerald green or sapphire blue, would offset the neutral shade in a bold manner. The neutral can be layered with ivory, camel or tan to keep the look soft. Charcoal creates a sharp yet chic contrast. Textures and geometric patterns can be added in the form of silk scarves or you can finish the look with a bold bag in burgundy or teal.” She says, “The key is to balance mocha mousse with accents that reflect your personal style.” Suja says, “I’m a minimalist. I would love to pair the colour with a gold big dial watch as I always do. A gold bracelet, medium-sized earrings, my shades, and casual hair make me look perfect and stylish.”

Home and interiors
Sidney says, “The trend going around in interiors is mocha mousse, beiges and browns. For the next few years, at least people are moving away from greys, blacks and whites to colours like this one for the simple fact that you can elevate the look with a lot of colourful accessories.”

Going Ethnic
This hue works perfectly well even when it comes to ethnic wear. Think silk saree with gold zari work or a lehenga skirt with embroidery or mirror work paired with a pastel pink blouse if it’s a soft bridal look. “The colour has a touch of class and age-old elegance, combined with a tinge of luxury. When I wear it, I feel confident and sexy”, shares Dr Mini Rao.

Wedding planning
Sidney elaborates on how mocha mousse is just a take on champagne gold and can be incorporated quite beautifully into Indian weddings. When it comes to clothes he says, “The colour can be paired with a lot of traditional zardozi work where shades of gold actually show through. Rose gold, antique gold etc look really nice with this tone. You can even mix it with fuchsia, crystals and Swarovski or just wear it multi-coloured.”

He adds, “The clothes worn by brides and grooms can depend on details such as the wedding venue, stage décor, florals etc.” He envisions making the colour stand out with contrasting backdrops.
Now that we’ve given you enough reasons to work mocha mousse into your AM and PM looks, you can invest in wardrobe classics that our experts recommend or pinterest plan your best friend’s wedding with touches of mocha mousse. Though neutral, you will find that this hue can be glammed up effortlessly when the occasion demands it. It looks like our perception of browns as grounded and humble is about to change. The status of the colour is all set to be elevated to something more glamorous and luxe over the next twelve months.
