The GLS is the biggest Mercedes-Benz out there and now it gets a sportier look thanks to the AMG Line. As you might know, AMG represents the performance side of Mercedes-Benz and the GLS in this avatar gets a spruced-up makeover in terms of the exterior as well as the interior. Immediately, the GLS AMG Line is instantly recognisable by its sportier set of bumpers, noticeably, the extended chin which adds to the menacing stance.

Look closer and you can see the bigger intakes and how the wheel arch extensions are also body coloured. The rear too gets a tweaked design and clad in these alloys, the GLS does look more sinister now. The massive looks have been given a twist within an AMG form and the interiors too have a different look to them. The first point of contact is the new AMG steering wheel which instantly offers a meatier grip while having a twin spoke design.

This is like the other AMG sports cars and performance SUVs while establishing a link to them. The sportier side is enhanced with different pedals and AMG floor mats. At heart it is a massive SUV which has a lot of space while the basic interior architecture has not been changed. The second row retains its USP with acres of room to stretch out. The engines remain the same but they did not need changing anyways with potent inline-6 petrol and diesel units. Both have ample power and the torque matches the demeanour of the car too.

That said with its AMG Line design ethos, a sportier engine note or enhanced powertrain would have been nice too. That said, the GLS AMG Line adds a visual aspect to the GLS range and would be a popular choice for its looks yet not compromising on the everyday aspect of the car too. Prices have now crept up at Rs 1.4 crore but looking at the popularity of the GLS that will not pose any hindrance considering the ample demand that this big SUV always has. In short, the GLS AM Line will add more customers looking for a different appeal within an SUV range.

Tesla enters India with its futuristic Model Y

It was long awaited but finally you can buy a Tesla in India although it is limited to a few locations at first. Tesla’s arrival has been endlessly debated and the carmaker itself had tried earlier to enter. However, with the Indian market maturing in terms of the EV space, Tesla finally took the plunge. The first car is a no-brainer as it is their best seller which is the Model Y of course. The Model 3 sedan is also there but the Model Y for now makes more sense for our SUV obsessed market while being one of the best selling cars in the whole world. The Model Y sold in India is the updated version and that brings in many crucial changes to its equipment list as well as the design. The new Model Y looks more futuristic with the light bar and the quality in terms of the paint finish is also quite nice. The car is big while adhering to the segment size but the design has the wow factor which you need to stand out. Inside it is stark and simple with the massive touchscreen being tasked to handle nearly all the functions. The updated Model Y sold here though gets a better interior with plusher materials while the feature list is also upgraded. The rear passengers have access to a separate screen at the back and the seats are adjustable here too. The massive panoramic glass roof adds to the sense of space and the cabin has a techy vibe for sure.

The Model Y in India is available with a RWD single motor but there is also the LR variant which brings in a bigger battery as well as more range at around 622km. Power is decent but the dual motor is the one with the blistering acceleration which isn’t available for now it seems. That said the single motor is fast enough on paper and a lot of technology is offered here including Auto Pilot.

Imported into India, the Tesla Model Y might seem a bit expensive but is well equipped and will carve its own niche in the growing luxury EV space. For now, Tesla’s arrival has given yet another option for the EV adopters out there. The Model Y starts from under Rs 60 lakh while the top-end is around Rs 67 lakh.
