1. How did you get into the entertainment industry, and what inspired you to pursue a career as an actor and dancer?
Actually, I used to tell my mother from childhood that I wanted to get into television. Acting is something I have been interested in since my early days. My mother’s efforts and her support were also a part of me getting into the entertainment industry. I learned Bharatanatyam by accompanying a sister from my neighbourhood to her dance classes. That’s how I learned Bharatanatyam. I also learnt different styles along the way.
2. What has been your favourite role to play so far in your career, and why?
Frankly, speaking, I like all the characters I have played so far. But if you ask me specifically, I would say that I loved playing the character I portrayed in the movies ‘Enemy’ and ‘Ratchasan’. Those were the roles that were something notable in my career and bought me to fame.
3. How do you balance your career as an actor, dancer and an influencer?
It is quite difficult to maintain my social media accounts while I am shooting. However, I manage to post selfies or reels taken between shots, which makes it kind of easy. There are also dance rehearsals that happen in between shoots, and sometimes I am unable to attend due to other commitments. Other times, I only have an hour to learn the steps before performing. As I love dancing, it has never been difficult for me.
4. Can you tell us about your experience as Comali in the Vijay TV reality show Cook with Comali?
I have acted in movies and TV serials so far. Being in a reality show for the first time is a completely different experience for me. I try to be myself, and apart from that, when I shoot for serials, we would just act out a scene and then rest. However, this is entirely opposite, and we have to shoot for an entire day. It is different but fun.
5. What are some of the challenges you have faced in your career so far, and how have you overcome them?
I did not face significant challenges, but many people in the industry have criticised my appearance and questioned my ability to play the lead role in a TV serial. They would say that I should have been replaced with someone more beautiful. However, I believe that beauty alone cannot guarantee success. Acting skills are essential, and when it comes to that, I would say that I perform really well.
6. What advice would you give to someone who wants to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?
If you try harder, it is relatively easy to get chances in the industry right now. If someone tells you that you have to pay to get into acting, just don’t believe them. The industry is safe and welcomes talent from everywhere. Don’t be scared, pursue your dreams, and keep working on them.
7. Who are some of your role models or inspirations in the industry, and why?
I really like Rekha. She’s a veteran, very bold, strong, and I think she is perfect. I admire her a lot, and she is my inspiration for everything. Apart from her, I also like Deepika Padukone and Samantha Ruth Prabhu. I am particularly inspired by Samantha for shining through her hard work even during her difficult times.
8. How do you approach learning new dance styles or choreography, and what do you enjoy most about dancing?
I really wish to learn new dance styles, but it is difficult to learn them quickly. I used to see my fellow dancers who were really good at different styles like b-boying, breaking, and such. I wanted to learn everything, but I knew it was difficult. So, I admired them and tried to develop my own style of dance with practice as this is what I love doing.
9. What are some of your favourite memories from working on sets or with co-stars?
I would say that the sets of Mouna Raagam have lots of memories for me. When we didn’t have to shoot, we would go to the movies and even during shoots; we used to have a lot of fun. Especially when we had to shoot romantic scenes with my lead actors, everyone would keep on laughing. We would really suck at it, but on screen, it would be perfect, all thanks to my director sir. I enjoy reminiscing about these kinds of memories
10. Can you tell us about any upcoming projects or performances you have in the works?
Currently, I am only doing Cooku with Comali. A movie named Vadhana is yet to be released. Apart from that, I am taking some time to think about what to do next, whether to take a break or take on new projects. I am still processing.
11. How has social media impacted your career and the way you interact with your fans?
Social media has really helped me understand how much people love me. Its impact is usually high. It became quite easier for me to convey something to my fans or to people in general. When it comes to how it has helped my career, I am not really sure how many people have contacted me after seeing me on social media, but it has definitely played a huge role.
12. What are some of your goals for the future, both personally and professionally?
Personally, I would say that being a good daughter to my parents and utilising my time properly are important to me. Professionally, I believe that hard work and proper time management are essential to become a successful actress. I have never been someone with too many big dreams in my life, but my mother has always had high hopes for me to achieve great things. So, I try my best to fulfil her wishes and make her proud.
