Having lived a lifetime of appeasement, accommodating the needs of others before our own, we have forgotten that we are someone too. A failure that has led us to feeling shallow, incomplete and unworthy of love. It’s time for us to acknowledge that, contrary to what we’ve been led to believe, our primary obligation should have been to take care of our wellbeing before that of others. Surely one could not have served anyone any good out of an empty pot…
So let’s reflect on life, accepting it for what it is, be it good or bad; but remember to be kind to yourself.
It’s been tough on all and you are no exception, so be kind to yourself.
It’s a time of turmoil and encompassed in fear, so be kind to yourself.
It’s a time when loved ones were lost, so be kind to yourself.
It’s been a year when many fell sick and have faced death too, so be kind to yourself.
It’s okay to say “no” for you have your own needs too, so be kind to yourself.
It’s okay to fail (as everyone does), so be kind to yourself.
It’s the one who speaks ill and belittles you who needs help and not you, so be kind to yourself.
It’s just someone’s opinion of you and that’s surely not you, so be kind to yourself.
It’s the changing tides and this time too will pass, so be kind to yourself.
It’s not in your power to control it all, so be kind to yourself.
It’s going to take some time for things to turn around, so be kind to yourself.
So focus on what you can, and always be kind to yourself.
Sharing a quote from Jordan Peterson’s recent book, for it altered the way I look at my life for good, and I recommend that you reflect on it too.
“Treat yourself like you are someone that you are responsible for helping, so that means you have to start from the presupposition that despite all your flaws and insufficiencies, it’s worth having you around and it would be okay if things got better for you.”
