Did you ever imagine that you would shake global charts?
I think God has been really kind, and people too. I’ve released only two songs so far, and the reception has been overwhelming. People have celebrated the music and shared positive reviews. I’m truly grateful for that and would like to thank my Gurus and parents.
What’s on your manifesting board?
I focus a lot on prayers and believe in manifesting what I deserve—nothing more. You should work hard for your goals, manifest them, and then pray to God.
Did you always want to become a music director?
Yes, since the 8th grade, I’ve dreamed of becoming a musician. That dream came true when I started working with the legendary A. R. Rahman sir. From Cobra to Ponniyin Selvan 2, it’s been a blessing to collaborate with him.
Both your parents are singers, but apart from that, what inspired you to venture into music production?
I’ve always admired Timbaland for his trippy beats. He was a big inspiration. I also draw inspiration from artists like Travis Scott and many young musicians who are incredibly innovative.
You’re busy with movies, but when is your third single coming out?
The shoot for the third single is complete, and I believe it has turned out better than expected. It’s slated to release in January 2025, by God’s grace.
Tell us about your spiritual journey.
I believe in praying, working hard, and manifesting. My parents raised me to be kind to everyone. My belief system is simple: work for what you deserve and leave the rest to God.
How did the lockdown period transform you?
I had just completed my 10th grade when the lockdown began. I told my parents not to waste money on my education since I wanted to focus on music. They asked me to finish 12th grade, and I scored 90%. My sister, who is a nerd and also a pianist, sang “Aasa Kooda” with me. She’s featured in some of my upcoming songs too. I’m fortunate to have supportive friends who share my passion for music.
Did you expect your independent music albums to lead to film projects so soon?
Not at all. When “Katchi Sera” became popular, I started receiving scripts, which was exciting. I’ve been fortunate to work on projects like Benz, Suriya 45, and Pradeep Ranganathan’s upcoming project, along with Malayalam and Tamil films. I owe it all to my mentors and supporters who believed in me.
How do you feel about your songs being as popular as Anirudh’s?
That’s incredibly kind of you to say. I’m grateful for the support and encouragement.
Tell us about your Guru, Sriram Parthasarathy.
He’s the reason I’m pursuing music. Learning from him was a spiritual experience. His teaching methods are unique and mind-blowing. I’m fortunate to have him as my Guru.
Many don’t know that you’re the son of singers Harini and Tippu. Was that intentional?
Everything happens for a reason, and I believe whatever happens is for the best. I’m grateful for such supportive parents.
How did you feel when Korean singers made reels with your song “Aasa Kooda”?
It was special. Seeing people from another culture appreciate and create content with my music was heart-warming. It’s always a joy when your work resonates globally.
How is the project Benz progressing?
We’ve completed eight songs for Benz. When Lokesh Anna heard about the number of tracks, he was surprised, but I explained that each song fits a specific situation. The album features three English and five Tamil tracks, and I’m thankful to Sudhamsundram sir, Lokesh Anna, Jagadish Bro, and director Bhagyaraj Kannan sir.
What does a typical day in Sai Abhyankkar’s life look like?
I wake up, work, eat, pray, and then sleep for about six hours. I have a studio setup at home, so I spend most of my day there. I’m a fan of the raw and realistic Malayalam cinema, and I’m excited to explore diverse projects across industries.
Any plans to act in films?
Never! Acting doesn’t interest me at all. I’m passionate about music and prefer to stay behind the scenes.
Have you ever bunked classes?
Yes, I’ve bunked classes after lunch breaks. Sometimes, I didn’t even realize there were afternoon sessions!
How do you see the changes in the music industry and people’s reception?
I’m thrilled to see people supporting and appreciating new music. Recently, a fan from Malaysia gifted me a heartfelt personal drawing of my family, which was incredibly special.
Tell us about your first international concert.
It was in London, and it was an unforgettable experience. I’m looking forward to performing there again in February. Apart from movies, I have six independent songs lined up.
Your advice to aspiring musicians?
Work hard and stay consistent. That’s my humble suggestion and what I strive to do every day. My third single, releasing in January 2025, is a very special track, and I’m excited for everyone to hear it.
