Journey into Construction
Can you tell us about your journey into the construction industry? What inspired you
to start?
I began my career in real estate under the name DNV, which stands for Dinesh NagaVenkata. Initially, I was focused on real estate, but seeing many of my friends in construction, I felt drawn to it. The creativity involved in construction caught my attention. I started by working with builders, then transitioned into becoming a contractor. This shift allowed me to offer end-to-end solutions, from architecture to execution. Over the years, I’ve worked on various projects, including retail spaces, commercial buildings, theatres, and resto-bars. Some of my notable clients includes HURCO India Pvt Ltd, 32 Dental Care, JP Hotel, Zing Rooftop Resto-bar and The Hindusthan Fiber Glass. I also became a registered vendor for DRDO, Railways, and ISRO, completing and being a contractor for significant projects like SPIC and Vistadome coaches.
Evolution of Career
How did your career in construction evolve, and what have been the major milestones?
My career has seen a lot of growth through various commercial and retail projects. A significant milestone for me was the Zing Resto-Bar project, which I designed myself. It received numerous compliments, including from the managing director of JP hotel, Tejeshwar, which made it a project close to my heart.
Challenges in Construction
What challenges have you faced in the construction business, and how have you overcome them?
Two main challenges stand out: communication and labour management. We primarily work with Hindi-speaking labourers, and communication can be a barrier. Fortunately, I’ve been blessed with a reliable team that has stayed with me for the last eight years and that’s been my approach.
Motivation for Philanthropy
What motivated you to become a philanthropist, and how do you choose the causes you support?
My support system is my team, and that drives me. I’m particularly passionate about supporting the younger generation, as I believe they are the future of India. My goal is to help them in any way possible—whether through motivation, education, financial assistance, or guidance. I believe that by impacting the youth, we can shape a better future for our country.
Memorable Philanthropic Experience
Can you share a memorable experience from your philanthropic work that had a significant impact on you or others?
I firmly believe that everyone needs help at some point. My focus is on the young generation because I see them as the key to a new India. I strive to support them in ways that are impactful and meaningful, with pure intentions to guide and inspire them.
Balancing Business and Philanthropy
How do you balance your time between running your business and engaging in philanthropic activities?
For me, it’s not about balance but prioritization. It’s about making time for what’s right and necessary at any given moment.
Interest in Fitness and Cycling
You’re known as a fitness enthusiast and cyclist. How did you develop an interest in these areas?
Discipline, which I believe comes from sports and fitness, is crucial. It can transform you, and when you’re disciplined, you can influence others as well. I was into cycling during my school days, and after a long gap, I reconnected with it. Cycling for 2-3 hours is like meditation for me—it’s something I truly love.
Philosophies on Work and Life
What personal or professional philosophies guide your approach to work and life?
My inspiration is Karna from the Mahabharata. I believe in the value of giving, not as a habit but as an inherent part of life. Karna embodied this, and I strive to live by that principle.
Future Vision
How do you envision your role evolving in these different fields over the next few years?
I aspire to become a serial entrepreneur, engaging in multiple businesses and creating my own entity. My focus will also be on helping families and supporting children’s education. It may take time, but I am committed to my dream. Ultimately, it’s not just about achievements but finding satisfaction.
