My story: I am from Coorg and from a very young age was encouraged by my parents to hone-up my interests. I completed my education in Bangalore with a graduate degree in Visual Communication before moving to Mumbai to learn makeup under Namrata Soni. The decision to pursue makeup has been such a rewarding experience. Previously, I studied in Mumbai and received an advanced diploma in dance from Shiamak Davar International India Pvt. Ltd. After my training under Namrata Soni, I stayed back in Mumbai for a year to pursue Makeup in the industry. In this period, I worked with various projects such as Lakme Fashion Week, various web-series across India and innumerable shoots for advertisements etc. As a fresher in the industry, I had a rough start. But what helped me was being consistent with my work and never giving up on my dreams. My big break came with the offer to be the personal makeup artist to the actress Pragya Jaiswal, the leading lady in the 2021 blockbuster movie ‘Akhanda’. It was a dream come true to work with the best in the Telugu industry of the likes of the superstar Nandamuri Balakrishna and the famed director Boyapati Srinu.
My inspiration: Before getting into the industry, I had pursued dance, modeling and photography as a student at the University. In this process I developed a keen interest in aspects of Makeup having realised its importance. It was an obvious choice to enter the work of makeup and explore its various layers. Up until then I had not followed any particular makeup artist closely. It was with the support of my father, brother and especially my mother; I could make this passion of mine come true. They, with their supportive presence, are my constant source of inspiration.
My favourite celebrity look: I’m fascinated by Alia Bhat’s makeup looks. The perfect blend of makeup highlighting the natural beauty seen in Alia Bhat’s looks is something that I have always tried with my work. They are so carefully created that it doesn’t come across as artificial or excessive. A good confident makeup is all about celebrating the textures and tones of your skin and not a mask to hide your natural self.
Staying in sync with the latest beauty trends: I keep doing advanced courses in makeup to stay updated with new styles. Observing trends on the internet has helped in staying ahead and up to date with styles of the day. I think it is very important to follow the right set of people on social media sites that help you learn by sharing with you the latest tips and tricks. These can range from celebrity makeup artists, makeup influencers, photographers, vloggers and celebrities with great sense of style. It’s important to stay true to your style and also be patient and open to advice. It’s important to be kind to yourself on the journey towards being a confident individual.
