Birkenstock lovers just can’t stop raving about the comfortable tread and the kind of craftsmanship that it has distinguished itself for. But did you know that this iconic brand has an illustrious history spanning over 250 years? Founded in 1774 by Johann Adam Birkenstock in Germany, it had humble beginnings in a small cobbler’s workshop and went on to become a worldwide rage.

The celebrations have begun!

The milestone of BIRKENSTOCKS’s 250 years of shoemaking tradition was celebrated in India with an event that commemorated the brand’s steadfast dedication to exceptional craftsmanship and innovation. A standout feature of the event was the breathtaking “WALK THIS WAY” exhibition by H. Leutwyler.

Guests were taken on a nostalgic journey through the Birkenstock HOURGLASS EXHIBITION, which showcased the brand’s rich history, including its earliest footwear models, archival tools, and iconic shoe lasts that paved the way for the revolutionary Birkenstock footbed. The display also featured designs, literature, and notable collaborations with luxury brands.

One of the most memorable display was the original Arizona sandals worn by Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple, which were showcased for the very first time in India.

The Sand Art Show was another immersive experience that celebrated the brand’s remarkable journey and the vibrant community it has fostered over the years, leaving the audience in awe of the tremendous legacy built.

Browing the pages of time
The BOOK OF BIRKENSTOCK, created by BIRKENSTOCK, is an extraordinary publication that acts as a time capsule. Designed by the acclaimed Munich-based design agency Bureau Borsche and co-published with Steidl Publishers from Göttingen, Germany, this 688-page visual treasure trove features a wealth of never-before-seen archival materials. It includes early advertisements, original photographs, marketing collateral from both private collections and public archives, iconic brand campaigns, and trend-setting fashion editorials from Japan, USA, and France.

In addition, a pioneering Digital Brand Encyclopedia will launch in India later this year. This mobile-friendly archive will bring the essence of the BOOK OF BIRKENSTOCK into the digital world, offering curated narratives, visual collections, and over 600 archival images that encompass editorial content, VIP sightings, film appearances, sketches, product images, and advertising material.
