In this candid chat, we delve into her quirky personality to know more about this creative belle….

She’s Left-Handed
One of Ahilya’s earliest defining traits? She’s left-handed. “It’s something I’ve always found amusing, especially in a world designed largely for right-handed people. It’s a tiny detail that adds to my individuality,” says Ahilya.

Her Love for Nature Was Inherited
Environmental consciousness isn’t something Ahilya discovered later in life, it’s how she was raised. “My father is a horticulturist and landscape designer, and both my parents worked in ecological tree planting and sustainable garden design. Growing up surrounded by greenery and conservation efforts shaped my deep respect for the natural world, which continues to influence my personal choices today.”

Music Is Her Second Language
When she’s not acting, you’ll often find Ahilya with a guitar in hand. “Music has always been an important creative outlet for me, allowing me to express emotions in a way that’s very different from acting,” says Ahilya, whose music reels on Instagram garner a lot of likes and comments.

She’s Also a Singer-Songwriter
Acting isn’t her only artistic pursuit. “I write my own music and is currently working on an original EP. The project is deeply personal, and I hope audiences will get to hear it sometime next year.”

She Dreams of an All-Women Film
Among the filmmakers she most admires are Kiran Rao and Zoya Akhtar. “One of my biggest creative ambitions is to work with them on a women-led project—both in front of and behind the camera—bringing together powerful female voices to tell meaningful stories,” says Ahilya, who has acted in the films ‘I Want to Talk’ and ‘Singeetham’ so far.

Her Childhood Was Surprisingly Multilingual
Ahilya grew up in a home where languages flowed naturally. “The first three languages I learned were English, French and Sanskrit—an unusual combination by any standard. I even studied Sanskrit as a child, giving me a fascinating linguistic foundation,” says the actress, whose accent videos often go viral online. Her recent video of her singing the Varsham title song in a French accent garnered more than 5 million views after actor Prabhas shared it on his stories on Instagram.

She Spent Her Childhood in Pondicherry
Although born in Mumbai, Ahilya moved to Pondicherry at the age of three after gaining admission to an experimental ashram school. “Growing up in such an unconventional educational environment gave me a unique perspective on creativity, community and mindful living.”

She’s Fearless… Except Around Bats
Frogs? Fine. Lizards? No problem. Bees and insects? She can manage them too. But bats? Absolutely not. “For reasons, I can’t quite explain, they’re the one creature that genuinely terrifies me,” she shares.

She Rides an Enfield—but Can’t Drive a Car
Here’s an unexpected twist: Ahilya has never learned to drive a car. “Instead, I ride a Royal Enfield motorcycle—a skill I’m immensely proud of and something I genuinely enjoy. I’ll happily choose two wheels over four any day.”

Had acting not found her, Ahilya imagines she would have built a career in either journalism or social work. “Both professions resonate with my curiosity about people, my desire to tell meaningful stories, and my belief in creating positive social impact,” she says.
